Mission

Liftoff Engineering is an educational outreach program designed for students in elementary and middle school. The curriculum is designed to be hands-on, interactive, and teamwork-oriented, all while teaching real-life skills that students will carry with them for the rest of their lives. With technology becoming ever more important within our society, there is a greater demand for STEM skills and education. Liftoff Engineering hopes to spark interest within the field of engineering for young students so they can be equipped with the necessary skills and mindset for the future.

Goals

  • Introduce students to STEM and teach engineering fundamentals in a problem-solving environment

  • Build strong connections through teamwork and leadership activities

  • Provide students with hands-on projects designed to demonstrate engineering concepts

  • Set students up for success by teaching them the engineering mindset and various problem-solving skills which will help them succeed in life

  • Cultivate a passion for STEM

What to Expect

STEM, or Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics, is everywhere all around us, which is why it is important for students to have a strong foundation so they can tackle the problems of the future. While the program is STEM based, the skills learned are vital to every discipline, which allows for students of every discipline to have valuable takeaways from the program.

Liftoff Engineering is a program run by students, for students. It was designed from the ground up with its unique curriculum. Students will engage in engineering design projects which build upon their existing knowledge and previous project in the program. By the end of the program, students will be able conceptualize and solve their own engineering problems. Students will be exposed to many different engineering disciplines throughout the program, meaning that they can understand the interdisciplinary connections of the information. We want to provide the best possible engineering program to students, so they can put into perspective the science they learn in class and possibly become more engaged with STEM.
